First a disclaimer. While we have ridden thousands of kilometers in all parts of Mallorca, we have only briefly toured Menorca. So little information about riding gravel bikes in Menorca is available online, we thought a brief post would be of value.
Gravel cycling routes in Ciutadella or gravel routes in Mao?

We based our first trip in Ciutadella and it was lovely. However, if I was planning on a cycling trip, especially to explore gravel, I think there are more options in Mao or even Alaior.
We did find some spectacular gravel sectors in Western Menorca, but not enough of them to make interesting loops. The central or eastern parts of the island seemed to have more options for riding gravel bikes in Menorca.
Cami de Cavalls
Most off road cyclists come to Menorca to ride the Cami de Cavalls. Established in the 1300s as a horse path for defending the island, it is now a popular hiking and mountain biking destination. Some parts of this 185 kilometer path are rideable on a gravel bike and others are better suited for a mountain bike.
If you are visiting Menorca for the first time and looking for an offroad adventure, renting a mountain bike and heading to the Cami de Cavalls would be a great option.
Medieval Roads of Menorca on Bike
Menorca is filled with historical and archaeological treasures. We were astounded by the amount of talayots and taulas found throughout the island. It’s not a surprise that we were drawn to the remnants of medieval roads like the Cami Reial.

The lesson we failed to learn very quickly was that these medieval roads were often quite technical. These stone paths resembled XC rock gardens more than the Roubaix cobbles we had expected. On a mountain bike they might have been ok, but we found ourselves walking more than we had hoped for. If you have big tires and a background in mountain biking, you might give it a try.
